The ATLAS Fellow was awarded to Dr. Jack Thomas Trevors

Jack Thomas Trevors is Professor of Microbiology and Environmental Biology in the Department of Environmental Biology at the University of Guelph, Guelph, Ontario, Canada. Professor Trevors is an internationally recognized scientist and researcher elected to European Academy of Sciences and Arts, and Fellow of the following organizations: the American Academy of Microbiology, The Linnean Society, World Academy of Arts and Sciences, World Innovation Foundation and The Institute of Biology of the UK. He is also an Academic and Research Microbiologist (ARMCCM) of the Canadian College of Microbiology.

He is also Member of European Federation of Biotechnology, Member of Denitrification RCN (Research Coordination Network) National Science Foundation, USA, Member of NSERC Strategic Bioconversion Network, and Member of Biomed Experts Network.

Professor Jack Trevors Receives Distinguished Professorial Teaching Award

The University of Guelph Faculty Association (UGFA) presented the distinguished professorial teaching awards at a ceremony Oct. 25 to Prof. Jack Trevors, Ontario Agricultural College. Created in 1984, the annual awards recognize excellence in teaching and learning by professors and academic librarians, including classroom instruction, student consultation and thesis supervision, course design, curriculum development and innovative teaching methods.

Genome Canada is pleased to announce the launch of its 2010 Large-Scale Applied Research Project Competition.

Genome Canada is seeking proposals for large-scale research projects which focus on the application of genomics research such that there is a high potential for benefits for Canada (with an emphasis on economic benefits) to be realized or initiated before the end of the project. Proposals targeting the areas of forestry and/or the environment are particularly encouraged to apply. Proposals impacting one or more of Genome Canada's other strategic sectors (agriculture, fisheries and human health) are also eligible to apply through a multi-sector component of the competition. All applicants must identify and address key ethical, economic, environmental, legal and/or social aspects relevant to the genomics research (GE3LS) being proposed as part of the overall research plan. GE3LS proposals are also eligible to be submitted as large-scale projects.
